The Premier selects the Ministry from the ranks of parliamentary supporters. The Ministers in turn implement Government policy in the department or departments for which they bear responsibility.

The "portfolio" is the name given to the responsibilities undertaken by each Minister. It includes the Minister's responsibilities and the relevant legislation as well as the department/s and statutory authorities reporting to the Minister.
