MMS Search tips

Tips on how to search the Ministerial Media Statements website:

  1. Choose either a Minister (or multiple Ministers) OR a Portfolio (or multiple Portfolios).
  2. If you are searching for a particular topic, enter key words in the form field.
  3. Choose to search with:
    • all the word(s) (all words must be present in the results but not necessarily in order or together)
    • at least one of the words (at least one of the words must appear in the returned results, but not all)
    • the exact phrase (exact phrase must appear as you have entered it in the returned results).
  4. Choose the type of search:
    • Title only search (this will only search the titles of statements)
    • Full search (this will search the titles and body of statements).
  5. Choose a date range (inclusive dates).

Key Word search

If you are using the key word search, try and use meaningful terms. Try not to search using general terms like and, the or how, because this will slow down your search. If you search on a general word, it will also return results where that word is part of a bigger string (e.g. searching for ‘the’ will return results including ‘strengthened’).

Keep in mind that words such as ‘Queensland’ may be shortened in a title as ‘Qld’ so they won’t appear if you use ‘exact phrase’.

Title search

If you are searching using the title of a media statement, try doing a ‘Title only search’ choosing ‘all the words’ or ‘exact phrase’.

Minister and Portfolio searching

The standard search only searches the current term of Government (13 September 2006 to present). Ministers’ portfolios can change during the term of government, and the Ministers and Portfolios available in the scroll boxes are of current serving Ministers and current Portfolio arrangements.

If you choose a Minister and a Portfolio that do not match, the system will not return any results. It is better to choose either a Minister, or a portfolio. If you need to narrow your search scope, enter key words and/or a date range. If you choose a Minister or Portfolio (with no other criteria), the search will return all statements published by that Minister or Portfolio in the current term of Government.

Statements from past Ministers who served during the current term of Government are available by entering the name of that Minister as a search word.

Similarly, statements from a portfolio that existed during the current term of Government, but does not currently exist, are available by entering the name of the Minister who owned that portfolio as a search word.

Statements released during previous terms of Government (i.e. before 13 September 2006) are available by searching through the relevant previous term (select from the left hand navigation).
