SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND: IMAGES THAT MAKE UP BIG PICTURE QUEENSLAND ONLINE FROM TODAY

Images of the 135 past and future tiles that make up the giant 40sqm mosaic, a visual snapshot of quintessential Queensland permanently displayed at the RNA in Brisbane, can be accessed from today at http://mosaics.q150.qld.gov.au/, Premier Anna Bligh said today.

“The production of the massive mosaic made up of individual tiles each at just under a metre in height and seen for the first time at Brisbane’s Ekka in August, was a hit with communities around Queensland,” she said.

“This project brought communities together right around Queensland – including almost 70 councils, art groups, schools.

“The artwork and stories of South East Queensland from the Sunshine Coast in the north to the Gold Coast in the south and the Lockyer Valley in the west were fantastic.

“So we want to share them with everyone, especially everyone in the communities who worked so diligently to bring this project together.

“Through this mosaic, Queenslanders have had their say on what they believe represents their past and their future in Queensland’s 150th birthday year.

“This mosaic was brought together by Queenslanders for Queenslanders – and that’s what makes it so special.

“Putting them online means people all over the state can have a look at this great project.”

The mosaic was curated by Sam Di Mauro and his team from Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art.

Concept design and individual mosaic tile shape (roughly in the shape of Queensland) was created by Queensland artist Elise Parups.

2009 is Queensland’s 150th anniversary year of independence from New South Wales.
